Strandveld Vineyards
Strandveld Vineyards is far south even by South African standards. Just to give you an idea of the landscape, if you went 10 kilometres further you'd end up actually in the ocean. This geography is interesting and important because it's the deciding factor in what style of wines can be cultivated there. Due to the proximity to the coast, there is a fairly consistent stiff breeze. As a result, the soil is shallow, the grape skins are thick, and the sun is always covered by clouds. This is how the grapes ripen, but still remain small and have a lot of aromas preserved. Basically, a small package that packs a punch. We don't like to get too technical about it, but that's what the wine world calls a special terroir.
