WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS - MAKE COCKTAILS!

Miss having tasty craft cocktails at happy hour? We feel ya. But the good news: now you get to dust off those mixologist skills at home! Which is why today we're kicking off the weekend early and having a boozy liquid lunch.😉

A lot of people are using this extra time at home for all kinds of productive things like learning a new skill, reading books, or creating something crafty. But the WM Team? We're making cocktails.

Gin Tasting Set

Because now that we have to be our own bartender (*sigh*) we're getting creative and taking a bit more time to make some truly awesome drinks. And for these cocktails, we used 2 gin minis from our Gin Tasting Set! It's a great way to experiment with different cocktails and find your favourite before buying the full bottle. The set comes with 5 different mini bottles of craft gin, 6 bottles of Italian tonic water, and each gin comes with its own signature cocktail recipe - and today we're giving you 2 more.

Today we're making 2 summer cocktails: Watermelon Gin Punch and a Margatini (Gin Margarita). And we started by taking a trip to our local street wet market to get fresh fruits. Highly recommend just walking around these markets and getting inspiration - because you can combine just about any fresh fruit and alcohol and it's going to be pretty good. We were drawn to these massive beautiful watermelons and the fresh limes and decided to turn them into cocktails!

Here's what you need:
  • 130 ml Fresh Watermelon Juice
  • 20 ml Fresh Lime Juice
  • 50 ml François Hanau Dry Gin Mini
  • Simple Syrup (optional for a sweeter cocktail)
  • Ice
  • Limes for garnish
Barware supplies:
  • Highball glass or similar
  • Blender
  • Knife
  • Juice/citrus press
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • strainer

I N S T R U C T I O N S :

Cut the watermelon into small chunks and purée in a blender or food processor. Then press the purée through a strainer to keep out any seeds or chunks. Fill a measuring cup with 130ml of watermelon juice and set aside. Squeeze/press 2 large limes to get 20ml of fresh lime juice (the amount of juice you'll get depends on the lime size and how intense your press is).

Fill your glass halfway with ice and pour in the gin. Next, add your watermelon juice and lime juice and stir everything together. Now taste your creation and decide if you want to add simple syrup to sweeten it. We personally did not add any sweetener but you do you. Finally, add your lime, garnish, and cheers!

M A R G A T I N I (GIN MARGARITA)

Here's what you need:

  • 50 ml (1 Mini Bottle) Muscatel Distilled Gin
  • 30 ml Orange liqueur (we used Cointreau, but Triple Sec works too)
  • 20 ml Fresh Lime Juice
  • Simple Syrup (optional for a sweeter cocktail)
  • Ice
  • Optional: agave nectar or simple syrup
  • Garnish: lime wedge, coarse salt
Barware supplies:
  • Martini, Margarita, or any kind of fancy glass.
  • Juice/citrus press
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Cocktail shaker

I N S T R U C T I O N S :

If you would like salt-rimmed glasses - start by running a lime slice and getting the juice around the top rim of a glass. Put salt on a plate or in a shallow bowl and dip the rim in the salt until it's to your liking. Set the empty glass aside. Then squeeze/press 2 large limes into a measuring cup until you have 20ml of fresh lime juice (the amount of juice you'll get depends on the lime size and how intense your press is).

Now add ice, the entire mini bottle of gin, lime juice and 30 ml Cointreau to a cocktail shaker, and shake. If you doing have a cocktail shaker you can improvise with a cup + lid or stir to combine everything. Taste, and if you want it to be sweeter, stir in about 5 ml of agave or simple syrup at a time, until it reaches the level of sweetness you like. You can always add more sweetener, but you can't take it back so be sure to go slow. Finally, garnish with a lime, add ice if desired, and that's it! Enjoy!
